Arts in the Community - Access for all Abilities

next / back/ home

Over the course of many years I have marveled how the Mandala art form is so accessible to all people. Mandalas can be created using an incredibly diverse range of materials with stunning results. Everyday objects such as buttons, sequins, ribbons, stickers, paints, paper, glass beads, matchsticks and even craft shapes can be introduced into the design to produce unique patterns and images that serve to both express and empower the creator.
Working within the confines of a circle, paradoxically releases a freedom of expression and movement that removes peoples fear of the creative process. The abstract shapes can introduce a myriad of imagery that speaks volumes about the inner workings of the subconscious mind and spirit. People always leave the mandala workshop with a sense of joy and well-being.

These incredible mandalas were produced in workshops that where held for people with various degrees of abilities and disabilities. Some have an acquired brain injury, some intellectual disabilities some have dual diagnosis mental health issues and intellectual disabilities
